Many centuries ago in the heartland of East Africa‚ as was common with other areas all over the world‚ two tribes established a common place where they could trade their wares. They exchanged beads for flour and swords for sweet potatoes just to name a few of items traded. As trade chatter developed‚ alliances were formed upon realizing that language was a barrier that could be overcome by their common humanity. Friendships were forged to an extent unimaginable before and other tribes joined this melting pot of social interaction. As soon as word spread‚traders came from afar. Arab traders arrived and the largest barrier of language was slowly overcome by a new lingua franca or Swahili‚ a blend of Bantu languages and Arabic. East Indians followed these two groups. Later, when Europeans wanted a share of this burgeoning market‚ they sought out what was established and were able to tap into it. To the early trader‚ this meeting place was a lively social place where all were safe to discuss and learn from others. It was a way of life where laughter and secrets were shared with ease‚ alongside serious dealings. The Swahili name for this rendezvous is "Soko"; in English, it would be called a "marketplace". The concept that the founders of SokoMarket have developed is an extension of the "Soko" spirit established centuries ago all over the world. SokoMarket is a place where traders are encouraged to trust one another as they lose themselves in a melee of creative people from diverse backgrounds that all have something to offer. SokoMarket is a place that is not driven by profit, but rather by how much can be gained by those that use it not only to get the best and most unique products, but also grow in knowledge by interacting freely with people from a variety of business and personal backgrounds.
